Mr Livingstone, I Presume?

September 2009 / Operation Charm

In January, former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, visited the Wildlife Crime Unit's offices in Vauxhall in order to film a promotional trailer for a wildlife documentary. The film is intended to show the illegal wildlife trade from poaching through to the end market.

Mr Livingstone was filmed being shown many of the seizures made by police under Operation Charm.

David Flint, one of the Wildlife Crime Unit's two full time police officers, said, "One of the ways Operation Charm tackles wildlife crime is to raise public awareness of the issues and reduce the demand. Films such as the proposed documentary with Mr Livingstone, are an effective means of achieving this."

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is a founder partner in Operation Charm, and Mr Livingstone as Mayor strongly supported the partnership. The GLA continue to support Operation Charm and its aims under the leadership of the current Mayor, Boris Johnson.
