Habitat:

Thick forests or areas with tall grasses

Found in:

Asia

Average statistics:

150kg, 1m height, 2m length

Distinguishing features:

Black and orange stripes, different for each individual

Diet:

Carnivores: eat deer, wild boar, monkeys

Gestation period:

Approximately 3.5 months. Average litter size is 2 or 3 cubs

Life expectancy:

Up to 15 years in the wild

Threats:

Habitat loss and poaching for Traditional Chinese Medicine which uses almost all parts of the tiger from bone to penis, and the illegal trade in their skins which are used for decorative purposes and tribal wear.

Wild Population estimates:

Maximum of 5,000

There are more tigers in captivity in the USA alone than remain in the wild in the entire world.
