Threat to endangered species
Between 1970 and 2000, 97 per cent of the world's black rhinos were lost because of the demand for their horns.
Between 1993 and 2003, 97 per cent of Saiga antelope were killed by poachers.
The world's remaining tigers are in crisis because of an alarming increase in poaching.
It's not just animals that are the victims. In the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, 209 rangers have been killed on duty protecting the park and its wildlife in the last 10 years.
