Even the food that we eat in London can put endangered species at risk. The increasing international trade in bushmeat, principally from Africa, threatens highly endangered great apes, such as chimpanzees, bonobos and gorillas. Over-fishing of sturgeon for the caviar industry now threatens sturgeon species in Eastern Europe. Recently, controls have been placed on the international trade in caviar to protect sturgeons from over-exploitation.
