The Metropolitan Police Wildlife Crime Unit is responsible for enforcing the laws protecting wildlife and for wildlife crime prevention in London. Operation Charm was launched as a Metropolitan Police initiative in 1995.

The Mayor of London published the first regional Animal Welfare Framework demonstrating how the Greater London Authority can play a significant role in improving the welfare of animals, both here and further afield. A key objective is tackling the illegal trade in endangered species.

The Active Conservation Awareness Programme (ACAP) is an innovative multi-media education and awareness campaign to reduce demand for endangered species. It is supported by Heads of States, high-profile celebrities, such as international ambassador Jackie Chan, and a network of media sponsors, including CNN International.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) works to improve the welfare of wild and domestic animals throughout the world by reducing their commercial exploitation, protecting wildlife habitats and assisting animals in distress. The organisation seeks to motivate the public to prevent animal cruelty and to promote animal welfare and conservation policies that advance the wellbeing of both animals and people.

WWF-UK conserves endangered species, protects threatened habitats and addresses global threats. They find long-term solutions that benefit both people and nature. WWF's global network is the world's biggest and most influential conservation organisation, and their Panda logo is a globally recognised symbol of the conservation movement.

The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) funds vital enforcement in eleven range states in Africa and Asia, working to protect critically endangered mammals in their wild habitat and supporting local community education and outreach programmes. The Foundation has also been helping to tackle the consumer end of the illegal trade in endangered species through its long-term support of the Active Conservation Awareness Programme.
